How I Tested Customer Support
To ensure a fair comparison, I tested both live chat and email support at each exchange using the same questions and methodology.
Testing Live Chat Support
I asked each exchange two questions via live chat:
- "Could you guide me through your account verification process? What documents are required?"
- "Can you detail the security measures your exchange implements to protect user accounts and transactions?"
I rated each exchange on four factors:
- Response time: How long to connect with a real person (not a bot)
- Clarity: How clear and easy to understand the information was
- Politeness: The professionalism and friendliness of the agent
- Completeness: Whether the answer fully addressed the question
Testing Email/Ticket Support
For email support, I asked more in-depth questions:
- "How does your exchange ensure user privacy, and what is your policy on data sharing with third parties?"
- "How does your platform ensure reliability and order execution during periods of high market volatility?"
I used the same four rating factors as live chat, with each factor scored out of 5. The live chat and email scores were combined for a total out of 10.

#1. CoinSpot — Score: 9.75/10
CoinSpot truly stood out with their exceptional customer support. When I clicked the live chat button, I was connected to a real support agent (Jackie) in just 8 seconds — not a bot, a real person.
Jackie was polite, knowledgeable, and provided relevant links to help me find more information. He made sure I understood everything before ending the conversation.
For email support, I received a response within 17 hours from Geoffrey, who answered all my questions in a clear, professional manner. This is excellent compared to the 24-48 hours I typically expect from email support.

#2. Swyftx — Score: 9.5/10
Swyftx also offers 24/7 live chat, though the experience differs slightly from CoinSpot. When you open the chat, you're first greeted by a bot that attempts to answer basic questions. When I requested a real person, I waited 11 minutes to connect with Malek.
Malek was helpful and polite, providing comprehensive answers with links to additional resources.
Email support was impressively fast — I received a response in just 13 minutes! However, the first email missed one of my questions, requiring a follow-up that was answered within 26 minutes.

#3. Coinbase — Score: 4.0/10
Coinbase's live chat starts with a Virtual Assistant bot that couldn't adequately answer my questions. When I requested a human agent, I waited 47 minutes — a significant wait with no estimated time or queue position shown.
Once connected, the agent (Mohit) provided clear and helpful answers. The quality was good; the wait time was not.
Worse still, Coinbase no longer offers email support. When I tried the email address provided, I received an auto-reply directing me back to live chat. This is a significant drawback for users who prefer written communication.
#4. Crypto.com — Score: 3.25/10
Crypto.com's live chat appears to start with a real person ("Hi there, I'm Sarah from Crypto.com"), but is actually a bot with instant, lengthy responses. When I requested a real person, I was told I'd be notified when one was available.
That notification came 6 days and 5 hours later. When I finally spoke to a human (Kegan), he didn't properly answer my questions.
Email was even worse — after 11 days, I received a response that didn't answer any of my questions, only apologising for the delay and asking me to contact them again if still relevant.
#5. BTC Markets — Score: 3.0/10
BTC Markets has no live chat feature at all — not even a bot. For support, you must use their ticket system.
I received an email response after 45 hours and 40 minutes. The reply was brief and unhelpful, simply providing links to their website without actually answering my questions.
#6. Binance — Score: 0/10
Despite appearing to have a support chat, Binance has no actual customer support. The "chat" feature only directs you to pre-written articles. You cannot type your own question or speak to anyone.
There is no email support either. If you have a problem with Binance, there is essentially no way to get help. I've heard from users whose accounts were closed without explanation, with no way to contact anyone or recover their funds.
What Else to Consider When Choosing an Exchange
While customer support is important, it's not the only factor to consider when choosing a crypto exchange:
- Ease of use: A beginner-friendly interface makes buying crypto simpler
- Available cryptocurrencies: More coins means more investment options
- Fees: Lower trading fees save you money over time
- Security: Look for features like 2FA, cold storage, and insurance
- Reputation: Established exchanges with many users are generally safer
- Regulation: AUSTRAC registration is required for Australian exchanges
